A few Paddle Peaksters entered the national ranking slalom at Cardington over the past weekend. Being an event with three divisions is quite unique, and means a packed start list of over 100 runs to get through each session, as well as Teams racing at the end of Saturday which is always fun.
Peakster Eadie Whiting has been training hard through the summer, including a week in France for the Slalom Schools Training Camp, so was eager to see how this would pay off. Saturday was some tight racing in the Div 2 Women’s class which left Eadie in 10th place, but she was super keen to better that on Sunday.
The Pick Peaksters (Daniel and Lucas) joined Eadie on the start list for Sunday, as well as the sunshine to boost their spirits. Some really tight racing throughout the day in all classes, and Lucas finished in 10th place in Div 3 (beating Nigel his dad!) and Daniel a brilliant podium in 2nd place, gaining him promotion to Div 2, superb.
This clearly urged Eadie on, lying in 3rd place after first runs she found extra pace for the afternoon to put in another clean run and bettered her time by 3.5 seconds, placing her in second place until the last competitor crossed the line, but her time still secured her a first Div 2 podium in 3rd place.
Awesome paddling from all the Peaksters once again, and congratulations to Daniel again on his promotion. See you all back on the water for some winter training very soon!
